Title: Little Black Submarines
Artist: The Black Keys
Album: El Camino
Sorry for the misleading title, but this is not a post about Amy Winehouse. It is in fact about The Black Keys. A rocking two piece band who are currently taking the music scene apart with there newest album El Camino. I already covered the Black Keys in a previous ‘song for the weekend‘ feature, my first one actually. I previously wrote about ‘Stop Stop’, an infectious upbeat song, with an unusual hard to explain ‘London Sound’ (Please don’t ask me what I mean by this as I have no idea). Little Black Submarines however is the ‘polar opposite’. The song starts off slow but steadily builds momentum as it progresses. Unlike ‘Stop Stop’ or any of the previous singles from the band, Little Black Submarines seems to contain some deeper undertones. I cannot confess to understand the true meaning of the lyrics. But I can appreciate the intricate balance between the subtle emotions at the beginning and the controlled explosion at the end. Maybe I’m over analyzing the song, just a little bit. But either way this is a great tune and most defiantly ‘A song for the Long Weekend’.

What do you think of El Camino? I have been a fan of The Black Keys for a while but haven’t gotten around to listening to much of their latest album.

Honestly, El Camino is how I discovered The Black Keys. I never knew of them before I listened to the album. I think the album is very good with some great tunes. But in saying that I downloaded their previous album ‘Brothers’ and didn’t think it was too good at all.

I actually saw these guys live in Philadelphia, and they put on a hell of a show! Little Black Submarines, in my opinion, was the highlight of the album.
