Title: AKA… Broken Arrow
Artist: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
Album: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds
Who said Oasis are dead? Everyone has said it, even the band members. But will they get back together? They’ve done so countless times in the past? Only this time there is a distinct difference. Noel’s success. Yes Liam has also been buzzing around the music scene with his new band, Oasis minus Noel, or Beady Eye as they prefer to be called. But as they have shown with their debut album, a snake without a head cannot get too far. And it seems that they have wriggled into the music wasteland, giving way to the other Gallagher. That uncharismatic guy who used to stand next to Liam, playing the guitar and singing the odd backing vocal, when Oasis were around. But where one brother has fallen, another will rise. And his name is Noel. That might be a bit dramatic, but there is some truth to it. It seems that Oasis minus their song writer is nothing more than an ensemble of Mancunian noise with attitude.
And now on to the ‘Song for the Weekend’. Broken Arrow, sorry AKA… Broken Arrow, is taken from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds debut album, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Lets just be thankful that the album doesn’t have a title track, things are confusing enough as they are. The album is an astounding success in my opinion. With three single’s already bombarding the airwaves, and more on the way, it seems that there is nothing stopping this band, not even the long-winded title. When I tried to select a song for this post, i tried to steer clear of the already recognisable singles. This is the format that I usually take. Normally selecting a song from the albums musical leftovers is an easy task, as there is always one impressive tune that never made it on to a single. In the case of this album there are seven. But AKA… Broken Arrow seem to be the one that stuck with me through the week. And so that what I will leave you with.
